3 Stitches

I got a call at around noon today from my mom. She called to tell me that my youngest brother, Adriel, got into an accident in school. Her voice on the phone was pretty scary so I got nervous. This is the first time that any of us got into an accident so we are kinda panicking about it and making it a big deal. She didn't know the other details about the accident so she just asked me if I can leave work and head straight to Makati Medical Center. I asked permission from my boss and left as early as I can.

On the way, I already texted my friend, Didoy, an intern there in MMC if he can help us or drop by the ER so at least, even though I'm still on my way, I know someone's with my parents that is not panicking. I was relieved to know that he's on duty. While on the cab, I was praying.

When I got to the ER, I asked the admissions about my brother, apparently, he is not on the system's list. So I kinda have to look for him. I am not familiar with MMC's Emergency room so it was kinda crazy going around. Finally, I found them in the sutures area.
My brother's deep cut!
I saw my brother and thank the Lord that he is okay in one piece. He has some scrapes in his right elbow and left knee and a deep laceration on his left eyebrow. I instantly asked my brother the details of the accident. (Feeling ko part ako ng SOCO!) So here's the story.

They were having their physics class. The teacher has an experiment for them. They will be running from the ground floor to the fourth floor while holding a stopwatch. When they reach the fourth floor, they will be weighing themselves and compute. I think it's about power, force and time. Something like that. So when it was my brother's turn, he started running as fast as he can, while he was in the middle of his run, another teacher came out of the corner. So he tried to miss the teacher. He swerved (yes, like a car) and slipped (he was wearing leather shoes) and tried to brake but still hit his head on the CORNER of a step. He just told me that the next thing he remembered was his classmates was bringing him to the clinic.

When the story was finished, I cannot help but blame the teacher. Who would even think of an activity like that?! Being a teacher myself, you would always think about the safety of your students and anything that involves STAIRS and RUNNING are NOT SAFE! I couldn't help but think of why that lesson plan was approve. Why didn't they block the path that the students are through and why no guards/watchers per level. But the mere fact that this was their activity, I cannot comprehend it.

My dad was able to talk to the teacher. I found out that she's a newbie. She apologized for what happened and told my dad that it won't happen again. The Science coordinator personally visited the clinic and made sure that my brother was okay. Being a teacher, I put myself in the shoes of the teacher, of course, the only thing that I can do is to say sorry. I really understand what's she's feeling but I hope this won't really happen again.

My brother had to undergo some stitches so the laceration will close and heal immediately. I couldn't help but take pictures of the procedure. Maybe he can show this to his future kids. Haha.

He was longer than the bed. The doctors cleaned the wound before proceeding.
I was laughing when he started to ask my Dad to hold his hand. Hahaha. Biglang naging softy.
The doctor started to cover him with the cloth.
Anesthesia and the stitching.
Almost done. Final procedures.
Good as new! Hahaha.
I just feel blessed about everything that happened. I am thankful that it was a minor accident. Thankful that he didn't have any broken bones or fractures. Thankful that he didn't have to stay at the hospital that long. Thankful for nice doctors and under the care of a great hospital. Thankful that my brother feels like nothing happened. Thankful that my brother still wants to go to school tomorrow. Thankful that we have money to pay for it and the school is willing to reimburse all the expenses. I claim complete healing of my brother. I know that the Lord will heal him soon.
